Recruiting the ‘quality teacher’: equity, faith, and passion

The figure of the teacher is becoming increasingly significant in schooling systems around globe. In this article, we consider how market-oriented system Australian state New South Wales may be reflecting and (re)shaping understandings who teachers are should be. To do this, present a corpus-assisted analysis advertisements for teaching positions gathered across public, Catholic independent school sectors, to explore schools sectors construct images ‘good’ or ‘quality’ teacher. Findings indicate stronger focus on ‘person’ schools; surprising lack pedagogical concerns within any sector. Our contribution novel first, using relatively untapped data source constructed public domain; second, demonstrating reciprocal relationship between marketing educational products.
